Neal Cohen received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego, in 1981. After having held positions at MIT and then Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Cohen came to UIUC in 1990, where he is now Professor in the Department of Psychology, the Neuroscience Program, and the Beckman Institute. He is also a Senior Research Scientist at Washington University in St. Louis, and collaborates with investigators at the University of Iowa, Boston University, and the University of California at Berkeley. His research and teaching has emphasized the study of amnesia and other disorders of memory, and his work has played a critical role in the development of current theories of the nature and organization of human memory, including particularly the identification and characterization of multiple memory systems in the brain.
