Hester L. ("Lee") Furey wrote her doctoral thesis at University of Illinois on poems and songs of the American radical left from 1880 to 1920.  She has published articles on the political and discursive background of Poetry Magazine, the songs of the Industrial Workers of the World, and IWW poet Arturo Giovannitti, and she has written essays on Giovannitti, Scott Nearing, Mary Marcy, and Nat Hentoff for the Dictionary of Literary Biography.  Furey is the editor of the forthcoming DLB volume American Radical and Reform Writers, Second Series.  She teaches English and Modern History at the Art Institute of Atlanta.
