Larry Hanley teaches, advises, and administrates in the Dept. of English of The City College of the City University of New York. He has written scholarly articles, book reviews, magazine pieces, and has recently completed a manuscript, Symbolic War: The Cultural Politics of Proletarian Literature, 1929-1935. He currently edits Academe, the magazine of the American Association of University Professors. His intellectual interests include: working-class literature and culture, cultural studies, the politics of higher education, and new media. Currently, Professor Hanley serves as the Chair of the City College chapter of the Professional Staff Congress of CUNY, He has previously served as the College's Ombudsperson. He is an active member of the New Caucus, a reform caucus within the PSC-CUNY.
