Abstract for "'God Will Provide': Moral Values and Neoliberalism in Thinking the Short and Long Term":

How do we consider together two important trends in right-of-center American political discourse: the political rationality of neoliberalism and the political rationality of evangelical conservative Christianity? How is the party of "moral values" internally reconciled with the party of free trade and big business, especially when there is big money to be made on "immorality"? What is the place of messianism in achieving this reconciliation? How does contemporary neo-liberalism relieve the pressure that the moral values discourse would otherwise place on both the personal and political actions of American political actors?
