Junaid Rana is a cultural anthropologist specializing in the study of South Asian diaspora, in particular Pakistani immigrants. His research and teaching interests include the study of race/racism, Islam and Muslims, and community organizing. He is currently working on a book manuscript entitled Controlling Muslims: The State and South Asian Diaspora, which examines the role of state immigration controls and the racialization of Pakistani immigrants. In 2005-06 he will be an Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities Faculty Fellow for a project entitled "Islamophobia and Racism: An Ethnographic Study of Muslims in Chicago." His research specialities include South Asian Americans, Diaspora, Pakistan, Labor History, Muslims and migration, Racial Formation, Social Movements.
