PROBLEMS IN COMPARATIVE HISTORY (Fritzsche) Topic: History and Memory This
is an interdisciplinary, comparative course.
Themes will include the rise of historical consciousness; the presence of
the past; commemorative politics; the Holocaust; nostalgia; forgetting; attics;
quilts; collecting; antiques; and museums, and will embrace private and public
spheres, and will pay special attention to literary genres of remembrance. The
course will be run both as a problems and a research course; topics will be
drawn primarily from modem Europe and the United States, and emphasize
theoretical and methodological approaches. |
